Chinese handwriting practice sheet maker
Type the characters you want to practise and get a printable tracing sheet: one model character, faint tracing copies, then empty boxes to write on your own.
How to use
- Enter the characters to practise, for example a spelling list or a name.
- Pick a grid: 田字格 (four squares), 米字格 (with diagonals), 九宮格 (nine squares) or plain.
- Set how many boxes per row and how many faint tracing copies to include.
- Press Print, or choose “Save as PDF” in the print dialog.
Which grid should I use?
田字格 divides each box into four quarters and is the standard for primary school writing in Hong Kong and mainland China. It helps with proportion and the centre line. 米字格 adds diagonals, useful for characters with slanted strokes and for calligraphy. 九宮格 splits the box into nine and is traditional for brush calligraphy. A plain box suits confident writers.
How to practise with a sheet
Look at the model, trace the grey copies slowly in the correct stroke order, then write from memory in the empty boxes. Check the stroke order animation on the character’s page before you start.
