Cangjie code lookup

Paste a word, sentence or a whole article. Every character gets its full Cangjie code, the radicals behind each letter and its Quick code. Type letters instead to see which characters a code produces.

How to use

  1. Paste or type Chinese text into the box (Traditional or Simplified).
  2. Press Look up. A table lists each unique character with its Cangjie code, radical names and Quick code.
  3. For longer text, copy the “text with codes” output to make a study list.
  4. Type 1–5 letters (for example HQI) to reverse-search which characters use that code and which longer codes start with it.

Why look up Cangjie codes?

Cangjie is a shape-based input method: you type the visual building blocks of a character rather than its pronunciation. That makes it fast and precise, but it also means a new or complicated character can stop you in your tracks. A code lookup shows you the answer and, more importantly, how the character was split, so the next similar character becomes easier.

Codes here follow the Cangjie 5 table used by most modern implementations. Where the older Cangjie 3 code differs, the character’s own dictionary page lists both.

Reading the results

Each code letter stands for one of the 24 Cangjie radicals: A 日, B 月, C 金 and so on. The Quick (速成) code is simply the first and last letter of the full code. When a code is shared by several characters, you choose between them with the number keys.

Frequently asked questions

Does this work for Simplified Chinese?
Yes. Most Simplified characters have Cangjie codes too, although Cangjie was designed for Traditional characters and some Simplified forms decompose differently from their Traditional counterparts.
Why does a character show two codes?
Some characters have an alternative decomposition, or a code with an X prefix. X (難) is used in the Cangjie 5 table to reach variant forms that would otherwise share a code.
Is the lookup done on your server?
No. The dictionary is downloaded once and every lookup runs in your browser, so your text is never uploaded.
